How do you know what to keep and what to get rid of?  It is a simple question and Janet Jackson says it best.

“What have you done for me lately?”

  • Don’t use it very often?  Toss, donate whatever you like but get rid of it.
  • Ask yourself – do I really USE this item?  What is it doing for me?  You will be surprised how many things you can part with and never miss.
  • Take Janet’s advice…get rid of the things that haven’t done much for you lately!    Make your stuff earn its space in your house.
  • Getting rid of things that you no longer need or use will be a huge step in simplifying your life!  Over the weekend I cleaned out our playroom and the drawers near my workspace.  Pick one spot at a time as to not be overwhelmed.
  • Remember simplifing your life is a constant work in progress.
  • Enjoy the 1980′s flashback video while you are decluttering your home.

LOL!! I love this and the song/video. I have recently done some of this exact de-cluttering and simplifying myself and it feels great. I have unfortunately followed in the foot steps of my dad and his mom on being a hoarder and “junker” as we like to call my dad. HA! But none the less, I have really been putting forth some effort lately to clean out some spaces and part with many things that honestly, I forgot were even there…those items are good to go. On another note about this de-cluttering/simplifying process…donating many of these items (that I have uncovered as never or rarely used) has been a wonderfully uplifting experience as well. It makes me feel good to think that these items can be helping others instead of just taking up space. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
